Joy doesn’t always announce itself with fanfare, dear creative soul. It arrives in whispers—in the soft scratch of pen on paper, in the warmth of genuine laughter shared with kindred spirits, in those sacred moments when you truly see someone and feel seen in return. Joy is both humble and profound, asking only that we pause long enough to recognize it.
As artists and creative beings, we understand this intimately. Joy lives in the meditative repetition of Zentangle patterns, in the unexpected color combination that makes our heart skip a beat. It thrives in the studio workshop, where hands create and hearts connect. Joy blooms when we teach what we love and witness that spark of inspiration ignite in another’s eyes.
I notice what brings me joy.
This simple act of noticing is transformative. When you consciously acknowledge the moments that make you feel alive—whether it’s arranging your art supplies, capturing the perfect light for a photograph, or seeing your latest creation come to life—you give joy permission to visit more often. You create space for it to settle in and make itself at home.
This month, through The October Project, we’re learning that joy isn’t something we need to chase desperately. Instead, it’s found in the deliberate practice of presence, in making room for creativity, and in celebrating our authentic selves.
